Anne Boden founded Starling Bank in 2014, establishing one of the United Kingdom's earliest and most prominent digital challenger banks. Before launching Starling, she held senior roles across major financial institutions, including Allied Irish Banks and ABN AMRO, accumulating decades of experience in retail and wholesale banking operations.
Boden stepped down as Chief Executive of Starling Bank in 2023, having steered the bank from inception through to profitability and a substantial customer base. Her tenure included navigating the bank through regulatory authorisation, multiple funding rounds, and the operational challenges of rapid growth. She is also the author of Banking On It, an account of building Starling from the ground up.
